Wind Advisory

Today was everything I hoped for. Rain and sun and wind and the Longhorns beat OU! Outstanding!

Game was on at breakfast. Shock of shocks, Longhorns looked like a team! Leisurely breakfast. Retire to the room. Sarah goes off to do laundry downstairs and I settle in to watch the game. But it kept cutting in and out. Whyyyyy?! Rain?

Turns out the cause was wind. Checking the Weather Channel on my phone. Wind Advisory. Well, this'll be just a swell day to sight see in Seattleland. Yessir.

It was a great day. After the Longhorns clenched their victory, Sarah and I jumped into Prudence to visit a couple of my old haunts. We lived on the corner of 14th and Republican on Capitol Hill. Great old neighborhood with big old trees and great streets to walk and bike. A few blocks away is Volunteer Park, which boasts a great view of the city and terrific green space in which to picnic.

There is a fabulous art museum and statues of city leaders from the "early days of struggle" to become a city.

On the way to the old homestead, we passed Green Lake, where Michael was an actor and I was the resident stage manager at the BathhouseTheater back around 1980. But that is for tomorrow.

Once we had climbed to the top of the Water Tower in Volunteer Park, the bottom dropped out and we actually went searching for rain gear.

We went to Target on 2nd Avenue near Pike Place. Not the smartest thing I have done. The winds whirling around just made all the pedestrians brain dead and they were very difficult to keep from running over.

We did manage to get to the store; one of those multilevel downtown jobs (please remind me never to do that again). Sarah bought a shirt, but they want $50 for a raincoat. I pass. I would rather just get wet. When we get back to California, maybe we might get to use the stuff we bought in December. Yeah, right.

So we drove around for awhile longer; through beautiful lush green neighborhoods with mossy brick fences and yellow and red leaves falling everywhere. Got lost and found and loved every minute of it.

No churches today. Wind addled.

Hunkering down tonight in the hotel with good book and no pressure to go anywhere. Boy do I love a place with weather! Puget Sound is gorgeous and the skies are miraculous. I had forgotten how much I loved it here (but maybe it's just nostalgia). Thanks for the reminder.

Tomorrow: Pike's Place Market and Compline at St. Mark's Cathedral.
