We pushed really hard yesterday, so today we throttled it back a bit. We still racked up the miles but decided to take it easy in Medford for half the day.
Before we got to the all-important visit to a laundromat, we visited St. Mark's, Medford.
Here's another remarkable parish. We pulled up to the church office and walked up the steps of this amazing building through the door to the church office.
We were met by Barbara and Lynn, who work in the office. They were so kind. Barbara went to fetch he Interim Rector. She was in a meeting, but she came out briefly to welcome us and she had Barbara take us over to the church after making us promise we wouldn't go into the sanctuary because the floors were ring refinished and offering to meet with us after we finished taking pictures.
Walking to the church, Barbara old us that the office building used to be a mortuary and was on the register of historic buildings in Medford. It is called Hafner House. The church building is vintage World War II and was renovated in the 90s and is presently being renovated.
Workers were busy varnishing the wood floors.
The congregation presently worships in the parish hall (sound familiar to anyone?).
Once we had taken a peak at the sanctuary, Barbara left us outside on the front steps of the church to sing. Sarah chose Down in the River to Pray.
Then we went back to the office to meet with Linda Potter, Interim Rector. She warmly welcomed us into the library to sit down and chat awhile. Really gracious, she shared that she would likely be there only until June because the parish is in search process. But she told us of her ordination and her move from Colorado to Oregon. She is trying to retire. Some retirement, huh, Faye?
We snapped her picture and she blessed us on our way. The congregation hopes to regain their worship space on All Saints' Day. Big day for lots of people.
After that we did laundry, filled the car with gas and stumbled across the perfect lunch spot, Sonic! Then we beat it out of town for Duck City (I mean Eugene, Oregon).
We thought briefly about staying in Roseburg, but hotels were sold out. Tragedy brings out the press.
President Obama will visit there on Friday, but we will be leaving Portland for Seattle by then. Maybe we will stop on the way back.
Pressed on for Eugene and made it in good time. Incredibly beautiful country around here. God was really working overtime on this stuff. Even the trucks can't take away its beauty.
But the best part was the Wild Duck Cafe near Duck campus. Great nachos asada and a proper margarita on the rocks. A great way to end this Take it Easy Day.
Tomorrow: The Duck Store!!
